At the 26th Annual Johns Hopkins Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 11th, 2008, The Johns Hopkins Hospital's diversity and equal employment opportunity (EEO) officer John Fuller received the Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Community Service in 2007.
Keynote speaker Rev. Al Sharpton presented Fuller with the award, which is reserved for distinguished faculty, staff, graduate students and retirees of The Johns Hopkins University and The Johns Hopkins Hospital/Health Systems whose spirit of volunteerism and citizenship reflect that of Dr. King.
Fuller's volunteer resume is long and diversified. He has organized food bank and clothing drives for two Native American Reservations and assisted with personal tax returns and emergency funding.
